KER & DOWNEY AFRICA is a luxury African safari and travel company steeped in history. Because we know Africa, and we get to know you, we tailor-make authentic African travel experiences that are truly unforgettable.
Ker & Downey was founded by Syd Downey and Donald Ker in 1946 following a chance encounter in the ‘Officers Club’ in Addis Ababa. Syd and Donald shared a passion for Africa and an unrelenting desire to create a company that would provide visitors to the region with an unforgettable Safari experience.
The early years of the company were partly focused on hunting safaris, which had been glamorised by Ernst Hemmingway in his popular short stories and books – The Green Hills of Africa (1935), The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber (1936) and The Snow of Kilimanjaro (1936).
Today, covering fourteen African destinations in Southern Africa, East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, KER & DOWNEY AFRICA has a network of trusted experts, partners and guides ready to tailor-make your dream African experience. From the waterways of the Okavango Delta to the waterfront in Cape Town, the great game of the Masai Mara to the great lakes of Ethiopia, the remote jungles of Uganda to the remote beaches of Mozambique, Africa is a land of rich bio-diverstiy, unreal adventure and authentic culture for you to experience.
